Worksite-based Literacy Tutoring and Cultural Mentoring TEACH applies the cultural mentoring approach, long-term relationship building, and coordinated the tutoring model to the worksite. The one-on-one tutoring model in the workplace setting is unique to TEACH; typically, workplace ESL instruction is done in classes. One-on-one tutoring is shown to accelerate learning by 25% - 30%.

it has been limited and has not 
been evaluated in a systematic, 
measurable way.
Goals of our current effort ~ Demonstrate increasing English literacy proficiency resulting in significant improvements in job performance. This would be accomplished by measuring work dimensions identified by the employer as key to the job. ~ Demonstrate increasing English literacy proficiency resulting in significant improvements in work-related dimensions. These dimensions would include wage increases, job satisfaction, sense of affiliation, and expanded job opportunities. It would also include personal life dimensions such as improved capability to assist children with homework, improved ability to communicate successfully in day-to-day situations, and improved quality of life for employees and their families. ~ Develop an approach that can be replicated in diverse work environments.
